Respiratory Therapy, A.S.

The associate of science degree program in Respiratory Therapy is a cooperative program offered by Carver Career amp; Technical Education Center in Malden, West Virginia, and the CTC @ WVU Tech. It is a limited enrollment program which admits one class of students each fall semester. Admission requirements include the following:

  1. Graduation with a high school diploma or GED.
  2. ACT composite score of 20 or better (or SAT composite of 840). Individuals who took this test prior to October 1, 1989 may meet this requirement with composite score of 18 or better. An ACT score of 17 or better is required in the English and reading areas. An ACT of 17 or better is required in math.
  3. Two units of high school or college math courses: Algebra I and/or higher with a "C" or better.
  4. Two lab sciences in high school or in college, one of which must be chemistry, with a "C" or better. Other lab sciences preferred: biology or physics.

Students whose ACT scores do not meet the above outlined criteria may be considered for admission to the program by meeting the following requirements:

  1. Twelve hours of college credit within the last five years from an accredited institution of high learning with a minimum grade of a "C" in each course. These courses must include chemistry and/or biology. (Developmental or remedial courses will not be considered.)
  2. If the individual's math score on the ACT is less than 17, MATH 030 or its equivalent must be taken and passed with a grade of "C" or better.
